Placement Year at Firefly Lighting Design
Channels Furniture Project
For my first complete project for Firefly Lighting Design we were approached by Samuel Chan, a furniture designer who was presenting his work at London Design Junction during Design week. The process began with a brief and assessing the layout plan of the area we were lighting for the client. I spent a day or two coming up with various ideas to present to my director. After my presentation, feedback and evaluation of some of my designs, we started to develop the ideas in greater detail. The final design was track lighting along the zig-zag planks of wood across the top to maximise and illuminate the key features of all the pieces of furniture.
Rendering Images
On my Work placement at Firefly Lighting Design, I developed my photoshop skills to transform regular renders carried out by the architects or interior designers into detailed lighting renders. This allowed the client to see what the lighting effects outside and inside the building would look like.
This was a very important stage of the design process as the approval from the client was essential as many people will find it difficult to mentally visualise lighting effects.
